The Stellar Awards, established in 1984, hold particular significance in the gospel music industry because they:

A Primarily focus on recognizing artists who have achieved mainstream success outside of gospel. B Are the only gospel music awards show that is broadcast internationally. C Are the first major awards show dedicated to honoring African American artists and achievements in gospel music. D Exclusively recognize traditional gospel quartets and choirs, ignoring contemporary styles.
